NHS Vaccinations

NHS Choices offers a clear overview of the vaccinations given as part of the routine childhood schedule and has a very handy ‘vaccination – tips for parents’ section.

Vaccine Knowledge website

The Vaccine Knowledge Project is independently run by the University of Oxford to provide clear, evidence based information to help people make informed choices about vaccine issues.   This is an invaluable resource.

If you still have any questions regarding vaccination please contact the surgery.  Our practice nurses are very happy to discuss any issues or questions you may have.

Meningitis Vaccinations

Meningitis Vaccinations – Protect Yourself and Your Family

Meningitis can be very serious, but vaccines offered by the NHS give strong protection. Since 2015, babies have received the MenB vaccine as part of the NHS routine childhood programme at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and again at 1 year.

If your child missed the MenB vaccine, it is not offered routinely outside infancy, but it can be accessed privately for those who wish to consider extra protection.

Teenagers are also offered the MenACWY vaccine in Year 9, protecting against four important strains of meningitis. This is available up to age 25 if missed.

Vaccination remains the best defence against meningitis. You can use the NHS app to check your or your child’s vaccination record.

Seek urgent medical help if you notice symptoms such as a rash that doesn’t fade with pressure, fever, stiff neck, severe headache, vomiting, or confusion.
